I am excited for another year of change for the Bridgeport Area Chamber of Commerce as we pass the torch for my time of service as your 2012 President.
Over the past 48 years your Chamber has demonstrated its commitment as a leader in the promotion and support of the business community in the area. Under the leadership of Colby Shawn in a challenging but improving 2011 economy, our chamber achieved growth in membership, increased event participation and improved our financial condition. We are very grateful for Colby’s dedication and the Board Membership’s insight, hard work, and dedication during his term and wish to thank him for his un-wavering service.
I am blessed to be a part of the change that has been ushered in to the 2012 term. Not only are we pleased to have Tiffany and Donna as the right people to succeed Teri and Ora, but we were fortunate to have Teri Bland, our Executive Director, and her dedicated assistant Ora Majka who worked hard and arduously to make this Chamber what it is today. I take great comfort and am confident that Tiffany and Donna have what it takes to perpetuate and ever evolving Chamber.
While catapulting off Social Networking with media like Facebook and Twitter, the Bridgeport Area Chamber has been functioning as a network for local businesses to reach out to the community and to each other for years. I am pleased to announce that we are currently working on face-lifting our Chamber website to better suit the needs of its membership and those who patronize the vast wealth of resources and attractions. Membership is where our organization starts – without our members we have no reason to exist. It is the support of our member companies and individuals that have made the Chamber a strong network for over 48 years. The Bridgeport Area Chamber offers monthly luncheons every third Thursday of the month and participates in Quarterly Mixers with other Wise County Chambers. The Chamber also hosts three major events a year with the Barnett Shale Sporting Clay Shoot, Butterfield Stage Days and Coal Miners’ Heritage Days. These events, along with new business ribbon cuttings, are the perfect opportunity to promote your business with your peers. We have a dedicated team of twelve board members that come from a cross-section of the community. It’s the Board members that make up numerous committee chairs along with many volunteers who commit their time and energy toward making our events successful. I appreciate the investment your organization has made in this Chamber and I encourage you to get involved by attending or volunteering in as many events as you can. By taking advantage of these opportunities available through the Chamber, you can meet and work with people committed to helping the community and enjoy the benefits of networking and promoting your company. This year I encourage all of you to give back. Time is one of the most valuable assets we posses. If you are new to the area or possibly considering locating your business in Bridgeport, remember that the Chamber has much information that can be of help to you.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Chamber. We look forward to a great year of working together to strengthen the economy of our local businesses, personal relationships, and to promote this wonderful community and the surrounding area.
Sincerely,
Will R. Carpenter, lll
