Parks and Facilities Bridgeport Park and Recreation strives to enhance the quality of life in our community by developing, maintaining, renovating and preserving, in a safe and attractive manner, quality City parkways, parks open spaces and recreational facilities. It is further our vision to facilitate recreational opportunities and amenities which will be safe and secure for the benefit of all ages.
Currently, Bridgeport maintains four community parks and one community center. They have recently obtained over $600,000 worth of grant monies from Texas Parka and Wildlife to renovate Harwood Park, renovate and expand our community center, and to construct a 300-acre All Terrain Vehicle Park. The city is also in the process of developing a Keep Bridgeport Beautiful program and a Youth Advisory Council for youth and teens to become more involved in the planning of our Parks an Recreation Department.
Payne Park Most recently the city has added a skate park to one of the community parks. There are grind rails, jump boxes, ramps and open space to skate yourself in a tizzy! There is also a basketball goal, swings, slides and restrooms for any remaining posers (non-skaters) to enjoy the park.
Harwood Park Once the grant project is complete, this park will offer our existing city pool, brand new playground equipment for children 2-12 years of age, message centers throughout newly lit walking trails, xeriscape gardening and information about conservation and preservation, picnic/game tables throughout the park, a renovated pavilion available for rentals, horseshow pits, and park grills.
All-Terrain Vehicle Park This site is approximately 300 acres with 60% within an abandoned rock quarry and 40% throughout a wooded area. It will include both motorized and non-motorized trails for ATVs motorcycles, jeeps, mountain bikes, and hikers. There will be separate trailheads for motorized and non-motorized users and an area for parking, picnicking, and camping.

Besides access to the lake, Runaway Bay is home to a challenging 18 - hole championship golf course with the finest greens in North Texas.
The city houses 128 lighted boat slips in a wind-protected cove. Besides a convenient place to house your boat, it is a great covered fishing spot.

Summer activities begin with the opening of the municipal pool at the park and various water activities on the lake. July brings the 4th Fest (held July 1st this year) and a spectacular fireworks display. The weekend begins with golf tournament in the morning that benefits the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Center. Before it's over, the food booths are set up and the aroma of barbeque, hot dogs and burritos are in the air. The annual golf cart parade is held in the afternoon. Participants decorate their golf car and follow a parade route through the housing area. Judging is conducted and the winners are recognized.
The first celebration of the fall is the "Trunk Fest at Whitestone Fellowship." Cars are backed up in a circle and "mountains of candy" are placed in the trunk of the cars. Children dressed in Halloween costumes are free to "Trick or Treat" in a secure area. The winter season brings a visit from Santa and the beautiful Festival of Lights, and also the annual Chili Supper which is held at the Community Church. In the Spring we have the Easter Festival.
Runaway Bay is life as it used to be! Hometown atmosphere where the children ride their bikes, families worship in the area churches and everybody knows each other by name. Live and play in Runaway Bay. Come see for yourself!
